PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Direct and coordinate all department efforts related to sustainability, Environment, Health & Safety principles and other issues, as assigned.   Work with Executive Director, member companies, and other AF&PA staff to 1) coordinate ongoing sustainability-related policy issues, 2) identify and build strategies around emerging sustainability-related issues affecting the industry, and 3) ensure that Association positions on key sustainability-related issues are communicated effectively and consistently.   Provide professional staff support for member committees including coordination with other AF&PA Resource Committees and Sector Committees with an interest in the sustainability issue.  Work with member companies to review and revise the EHS reporting system and coordinate and analyze the biennial EHS report.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Work with AF&PA staff and members to develop and publish a sustainability report
• Work with members to review and revise the biennial EHS reporting approach
• Oversee the implementation of the EHS survey and report program
• Manage assigned regulatory issues and projects
• Work with member committees to help formulate and implement strategic positions and policy
• Work with AF&PA communications staff to ensure that the Association’s position on sustainability is communicated effectively and consistently to key audiences inside and outside the industry


MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS:

Professional background in trade association, regulatory agency, or in industry.  Strong competency in managing projects and issues.  Possesses excellent communications, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated with ability to operate in a cross-departmental, multi-disciplinary approach to issue management and to handle multiple tasks.


QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

Technical or public policy degree, preferably advanced degree with 10-15 years experience in policy analysis and development.
