Directory Information

To divert wood from landfills, respond to the needs of wood products users, and help ensure an abundant fiber supply, the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) developed the National Wood Recycling Directory in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service.

This on-line directory-updated in 1999-contains a nationwide listing of over 700 wood residue receiving centers. Examples of new products made from recovered wood as listed by companies include landscaping materials (compost, mulch, etc.), pallets, plywood, hog fuel, engineered wood, particleboard, furniture, absorbents, flooring, and paper.

The National Wood Recycling Directory was designed to help individuals, groups, communities, builders, remodelers, and demolition contractors identify receiving sites for recovered wood. This helps to avoid costly landfill fees and better use existing resources.

"The National Wood Recycling Directory is one of many AF&PA initiatives to foster and expand forest product recovery and recycling. Already having surpassed a national paper recovery goal of 40%, AF&PA is leading a new effort to recover 50% for recycling and reuse. Used wood, like paper, is a valued economic and raw material asset. "The forest products industry is dedicated to optimal fiber utilization. This Directory puts in place the infrastructure to make wood recycling happen."
-W. Henson Moore, President and CEO, AF&PA
