The American Forest & Paper Association fully endorses the goal of building more sustainable buildings.  We are strongly committed to improving the environmental performance of buildings and support scientifically justified systems and standards to reduce the environmental impacts of commercial and residential buildings.

Sustainable buildings offer a wide variety of environmental benefits, including better energy and water efficiency, reduced solid waste output and conservation of natural resources.  These environmental benefits translate into economical and social benefits as well.

Wood is one of the world’s most environmentally-friendly building materials.  From framing to floors to other interior products, wood is renewable and recyclable, and continues to store carbon dioxide even as a finished product.

AF&PA believes in sustainable building and supports a number of science-based green building programs like the GreenGlobes and the National Association of Homebuilders’ Green Building Guidelines.
