International Trade Policy

WPI works on a number of international trade policy issues designed to prevent the creation and implementation of tariff and non-tariff barriers to U.S. wood trade in overseas markets. Some of these specific initiatives include:

  • Working closely with AF&PA's International Department on multilateral and bilateral trade negotiations addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers to wood products.
  • Developing an action plan for industry involvement in international fora related to forest products including, the International Tropical Timber Organization, the United Nations Forum on Forests.
  • Working on other fair trade and competitiveness issues, the strong dollar, worldwide phytosanitary regulations impacting forest products, as well as U.S. trade legislation and negotiations on the trade title of the Farm Bill.
