Usher in Summer with Paper

There is just something about this time of year that brings
anticipation and excitement in all of us. Maybe it’s the warmer,
near-perfect weather and increasingly longer days. Maybe it’s the
sound of children running around, excited to finally be out of
school for the summer. Maybe it’s the realization that the summer
beach vacation you’ve been daydreaming about since January is finally growing
near. Or maybe it’s the anticipation of your best friend’s wedding in June.
Whatever it is, it’s a reason to celebrate.

If you stop and think about it, almost everything that brings us simple joy this time of year is made better with paper. Your beach vacation wouldn’t be quite the same without that new novel you’ve been waiting to read while laying in the sun. It would be hard to have a good picnic or backyard barbeque without paper plates, cups and napkins. What about those pretty, timeless wedding invitations you receive in the mail this time of year (not to mention the wedding license itself!)?

But perhaps the most important piece of paper at this time of year is given to those who are graduating. From kindergarten to college, there is nothing more special and treasured than the paper diploma you are handed as you walk across the stage. The 2014 graduates are our nation’s future.  As with most of us, paper is a part of much of life’s rites of passage:  from birth certificates to driver’s permits, our 2014 graduates now receive another special piece of paper to usher them into the next stage of life. And you never know, you could end up with a job in the paper industry! After all, the forest products industry is among the top 10 manufacturing sector employers in 47 states and accounts for about 4 percent of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP.

So here’s to summer and to celebrating with paper!
