WASHINGTON – American Forest & Paper Association President and CEO Donna Harman today issued the following statement about the U.S. Supreme Court for affirming the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) order on “demand response” programs in wholesale electricity markets.
“We applaud the Supreme Court for affirming FERC’s rule on demand response. Not only did FERC have jurisdiction to issue the order, but the court also affirmed that the order fairly compensated demand response providers -- such as AF&PA members -- for the services they provide to the market in the form of lower wholesale rates for all consumers and enhanced reliability. AF&PA has been championing this compensation methodology for years, and we’re gratified that the court’s decision ensures our members and other demand response providers are fairly compensated as they continue to provide benefits for all consumers.”
