AF&PA Releases August 2022 Printing-Writing Monthly Report

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its August 2022 Printing-Writing Monthly report.

According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 5% in August compared to August 2021. U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers decreased 1% in August compared to the same month last year. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased 2% when compared to July 2022.

  • U.S. purchases of uncoated free sheet (UFS) papers in August decreased 1% compared to last August while the inventory level decreased 2% compared to July 2022. UFS imports increased 25% while exports decreased 12% in July 2022.
  • Coated free sheet (CFS) paper shipments decreased 6% compared to August 2021 while the inventory level decreased 3% compared to July 2022. CFS imports and exports both increased compared to July 2021, up 37% and 10% respectively.
  • U.S. purchases of coated mechanical (CM) papers in August decreased 10% compared to last August while the inventory level increased 5% compared to July 2022. CM imports increased 14% while exports decreased 16% in July 2022.
  • Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments increased 17% compared to August 2021 while the inventory level decreased 9% compared to July 2022. UM imports increased 8% while exports decreased 15% in July 2022.
