Spotlight in Brief: 2020 Sustainability Award Winner for Innovation in Sustainability

Leadership in Sustainability Award: Innovation in Sustainability

Member Spotlight: WestRock

The paper and wood products industry is truly innovative. With new technologies and creative ideas, our members are creating products that are sustainable and responsibly manufactured.

AF&PA member, WestRock designed and developed a proprietary fiber-based packaging solution, Pak On Demand™ Pouch System. Using an innovative format, the system creates right-sized fiber-based pouches that are 100-percent-curbside recyclable.

KD-Fold is fiber-based, sustainable and part of an innovative system. These pouches are also highly protective, efficiently uses materials and eliminates unnecessary void fill.

In addition to the environmental benefits, Pak On Demand Pouch System is four-to-five times faster than manual envelope packaging and helps reduce labor by automating manual operations. The system has a small footprint, making it easy to install in small areas.

The fiber-based pouches do not need to be handled at special receiving sites, so the end consumer can confidently recycle them at home, knowing they can be easily processed in local recycling centers. Pak On Demand helps both companies and consumers be more sustainable.
