Our members create products such as toilet paper, paper towels, boxes and packaging, paper bags, notebook paper and lumber

They make about 85% of the pulp, paper, paper-based packaging and tissue products made in the U.S. 

Our members are small, medium and large companies in rural and urban communities across the country. 

The U.S. forest products industry: 

  • Accounts for approximately 4% of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP
  • Produces nearly $300 billion in products a year 
  • Employs approximately 950,000
  • Meets a payroll of approximately $60 billion
  • Is among the top 10 manufacturing sector employers in 45 states. 

We are a sustainable industry

Safety and sustainability are the foundation of our industry.

Our members are dedicated to responsible manufacturing with renewable and recyclable resources. 

Members are committed to sustainable forestry. Sourcing fiber from sustainable forests helps ensure America’s forests are continuously replanted and preserved for future generations.  

Further, paper and wood products are sustainable materials made from renewable resources. Renewable bioenergy powers U.S. paper mills. We are committed to ensuring our products continue to be produced in the most sustainable way to meet evolving customer needs.

Additionally, we encourage members to take part in AF&PA’s voluntary program to prevent serious injuries and fatalities.
