The American Forest & Paper Association announced Julie Landry as Vice President of Government Affairs. Landry assumes the role effective immediately.

Total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 25% in April compared to April 2022. U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers decreased 21% in April compared to the same month last year. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased 1% when compared to March 2023.

Total Boxboard production in Q1 decreased 5% compared to Q1 2022. The boxboard operating rate was 87.8%, down 6.1 points from Q1.

Total Containerboard production in the first quarter of 2023 decreased 10% when compared to Q1 2022.

The American Forest & Paper Association opposes the EPA’s final rule for Federal Implementation Plans (FIP) Addressing Regional Ozone Transport for the 2015 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NOx FIP). The "Good Neighbor" rule should exclude paper mill boilers.

Total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 9% in January compared to January 2022. U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers increased 3% in January compared to the same month last year.

Total packaging papers & specialty packaging shipments in January decreased 7% compared to January 2022.

The American Forest & Paper Association's Board of Directors announced advocacy priorities to help ensure the paper and wood products industry’s success in 2023. Priorities include: Sustainability, Energy and The Environment, Paper Recycling, Product Stewardship, among others.

AF&PA announced our newly elected board chair, and 2023 slate of officers at the Winter Board meeting. Additionally, we welcomed new company and associate members that joined in 2022.

Total Boxboard production in Q4 decreased 3% compared to Q4 2021, but 2022 production was up 1% when compared to the same 12 months of 2021.

AF&PA released its Q4 2022 Containerboard Quarterly report.  Total Containerboard production decreased 5% when compared to the full year of 2021.
